The situation
A food producer had solar panels on its roof and an export agreement in place, but nothing had been paid for the electricity it was sending to the grid.
The business already had a broker and assumed the export was being handled. It only came up because we asked about it during a wider review.
What we did
- Checked the export meter, the export registration and the supplier's records to see where the chain had broken.
- Found that the export had never been set up correctly, so no readings were reaching the supplier and nothing was being paid.
- Got the registration and the metering put right.
- Chased the back payment through to resolution and checked the figure against the metered export.
The result
The business received the back payment for well over a year of export, and payments now arrive as they should.
We did not charge for this work.
What this shows
If you generate power, check that someone is actually paying you for what you export. A signed export agreement is not the same as a working one.
