06FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Is Energy Planner a broker or a consultant?+

Both, in the way that matters to you. Like a broker, we arrange contracts with suppliers on your behalf. We also work as an independent consultant: not tied to any supplier, comparing quotes across a broad panel, and disclosing our fees before you sign.

How are you paid?+

In whichever way suits you best: commission included in your unit rate or your standing charge, or a fixed consultancy fee agreed up front. For audits and bill recovery we can also work on a share of savings. Whichever you choose, we set the level and disclose it before you sign. Commission is shown in your supplier contract, and any fixed fee is agreed with you in writing. See how we are paid.

Do I have to switch supplier?+

No. A benchmark sometimes shows that staying with your current supplier, or renegotiating, is the right answer. Billing errors, supply capacity, reliefs, timing and contract structure can matter as much as who supplies you.

Can you help if we are already in a contract?+

Yes. We can check your bills for errors, review your supply capacity and reliefs, sort out metering and data, and plan your next renewal well before the end date.

What do you need to benchmark us?+

A recent bill for each site and, if you have it, your contract or its end date. For half-hourly sites, consumption data helps. We only ask for a Letter of Authority if you want us to speak to your supplier on your behalf.

Are energy broker fees hidden in my contract?+

They should not be. Since October 2024, suppliers must show broker fees in the principal terms of every business contract. Energy Planner discloses commission and fees at quote stage, before you sign, and confirms them in every contract, as Ofgem rules require. You can request a full fee statement at any time.
